Succesful Business Man

Different businessmen have different ways to build their own careers. When faced with the decision of what some of qualities of a successful businessman are, each person has his/her own opinion. From my point of view, I consider that common sense, specialized knowledge, and good communication skills are the qualities of a prosperous businessman. The primary characteristic which every entrepreneur needs to have in order to do well is common sense. It is defined as an ability to make judgments on the issues, which he/she encounter in every day situations.A good common sense often called as practical intelligence empowers he/she act more quickly and wisely, especially in many complex issues. Successful businessmen are always able to be aware of the dangers surrounding him, anticipate and make sensible decisions. The second most significant quality is specialized knowledge about his/her fields. The entrepreneur who is incompetent at his job will never become profitable. Worked out ambiti on and money invested are not enough to make the business an effective and flourishing one; he must always accumulate his needed knowledge before jumping into business world. What is more, it is indispensable to accomplish success without communication skills. Being able to gain customers’ confidence is an absolute art and entrepreneur who can do it is bound to be successful. Furthermore, good communication methods can lay an intellectual foundation for strong relationships with colleagues partly lead to succeed in business. A prosperous businessman is must not only an affluent person, but also a prestigious person whose advice is always regarded by the others. In a word, to be a successful businessman is not an easy thing, but with a lot of effort, each entrepreneur can reach up to the success from day-to-day. From what I have stated above, I truly believe that common sense, specialized knowledge and good communication skills are the qualities of a successful businessman. A bu siness man is someone taking risk in a certain company for the purpose of producing revenue from a combination of human, financial, or physical capital. An entrepreneur is an example of a business man. Sometimes it can mean someone who is involved in the management of a company, especially as an owner or an executive.A successful business man must apply certain strategies in order to achieve different goals. So, what are the strategies that must be accomplished? First of all, to become a successful business man an entrepreneur should possess the basic business skills in order to adopt a winning business strategy. For example a business man in Fattal company is very organized always plan his business in every step and analyze it by writing a business plan to achieve the goals of the company properly this what make fattal one of the succeed company. So, a business man should always evaluate himself before taking any decision in business. Secondly, a business man must be an intelligent communicator who can gain confidence of others and a good listener to run the business easily. However, when I was doing my training in Pharma Group a medical company I really did appreciate the boss because he had the art of a good communication by being clear about what he was trying to explain whether he was informing or negotiating with us.In this case, the business person should be fluent in languages to be an expert in communication. Thirdly, Entrepreneurs need to deal with customers and suppliers with honesty to build a better reputation and must deliver the product or the service that add value to the business by focusing on the customers’ needs. Actually, Apple Company does have a good reputation because of the sincerity of the entrepreneur dealing with customers and buying them an efficient product that may satisfy their needs.

Microsoft’s Diversification Strategy Essay

1. Why did Microsoft, the most successful computer software company, choose to remedy its strategic disarray? Microsoft is a multinational computer technology corporation headquartered in Redmond, Washington that develops, manufactures, licenses, and supports a wide range of products and services related to computing. The company was founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen on April 4, 1975. Microsoft is the world’s largest software maker measured by revenues. It is also one of the world’s most valuable companies. However, after a string of bad news seriously undermined the future growth of Microsoft, the bad impression was arisen. Microsoft tried to remedy its strategic disarray, because in the high-technology industry, standstill is equal to commit suicide. IT industry is really a highly competitive industry. Microsoft must to solve their problems as soon as possible. Microsoft was the most successful computer software company. However, if they ignore its strategic disarray, they may be defeated. I would like to use SWOT analysis to illustrate my views why Microsoft chose to remedy its strategic disarray. Strengths: Microsoft is the world’s largest software company with global name recognition and strong reputation for innovative products. Microsoft’s Software products have high name recognition, broad-based corporate and consumer acceptance (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), and numerous powerful features that are in use worldwide, thereby promoting standardization and competitive advantage through their ease of integration and cost-effectiveness. Windows 95, 98, 2000 series are globally known as the PC desktop operating system with a market share of about 88%. What’s more, Microsoft has relatively rapid product development processes that allow for timely updating and release of new products. Weaknesses: Between1990-1995, Microsoft leadership failed to correctly anticipate the growth or popularity of the Internet. In addition, it perceived by many as a cut-throat competitor that uses its dominant market position to marginalize competition by stealing/destroying the competition’s products, stifling product innovation, and decreasing the availability of competitor products. Furthermore, Microsoft had its strategic disarray in the early 2000s. Opportunities: In the early 2000s, the demand for personal computers in American and global markets remains strong despite the growth and increasing popularity of personal handheld devices. Moreover, cheaper global telecommunication costs open new markets as people connect to the Internet. Threats: From the case study, basic office software had been challenged by a string of start-ups. Between 1993-1995, Sun Microsystems, Netscape, Oracle, IBM, AOL, and other companies moved into the Internet space and defined it while Microsoft failed to anticipate its growth or popularity. These new competitors were able to churn out popular programs such as e-mail, desktop search engines, and instant messaging over the Internet much faster than Microsoft. So Microsoft need reinvent itself. For instance, Red Hat, the one of key competitors of Microsoft, dominated the market for Linux, went public in 2000. Red Hat became famous. What’s more, in 2001, Red Hat expanded its software products and included database applications and an e-commerce software suite designed for average-sized businesses. Nevertheless, a string of bad news undermined the future growth of Microsoft since the early 2000s. If Microsoft didn’t remedy its strategic disarray, Red Hat or other competitors may surpass Microsoft in the future. Furthermore, from the case study, according to a study conducted by McKinseyï ¼â€ Co. in 2004 on IT spending trends, although IT spending had increased since 2003 after three years of decline. 2001 is the first annual decline since 1958. Customers would expect to get more out of their technology investments. Companies had been more concerned about the value of IT and enforced stringent rules and guidelines for IT spending. Therefore, Microsoft would have less opportunity to develop in the U.S. Moreover, Apple and Linux threaten Microsoft’s 88% market share of the desktop operating market. Linux influence growing from 7% in 1998 to 17% in 1999. In addition, Personal computers, mobile-phones, personal digit assistants, entertainment-oriented hand-held computers, and similar wireless products for Internet access do not require Window operating system products. And Software piracy of commercial and consumer applications software on a global scale threatens revenue streams. In general, the weaknesses and threats outweigh the strengths and opportunities in the early 2000s. At that time, Microsoft was threatened by a series of challenges, both external and internal. That why Microsoft choose to remedy its strategic disarray at that time. 2. How did Microsoft grasp market chances to diversify its operation beyond its comfort zone, fighting all the way with its major competitors? Microsoft chose to diversify its operation beyond its comfort zone since early 2000s. Diversification marketing strategy is a corporate strategy to increase sales volume from new products and new markets. Diversification can be expanding into a new segment of an industry that the business is already in, or investing in a promising business outside of the scope of the existing business. As what we have learned in the textbook, diversification strategy has many advantages. Diversification strategy can help Microsoft to limit risk. This is because a diversified portfolio is not overexposed to a single industry and therefore is somewhat insulated from downturns and volatility — or market fluctuations — in that industry. In addition, diversification limits an investor’s risk extending from an individual company or type of investments. In addition to limiting downside risk, diversification strategies also have the effect of maximizing portfolio returns. This is in part because risk is limited — by avoiding exposure to major losses, the portfolio can be more likely to make money. Microsoft was moving beyond the personal computer (PC) software business and expanded its product lines into enterprise software, consumer products, and services markets. It got into other devices such as mobile phones, television setup boxes, and game consoles. Microsoft had ventured into the services market through MSN in order to generate new revenue. MSN is a collection of Internet sites and services provided by Microsoft. It was a Web portal that offered a wide range of online services including: news, information search, e-mail, instant messaging, online shopping and games, chat rooms, and message boards. Based on its success in MSN, Microsoft had hoped to leverage its experience to transform its Windows-based services for consumers and enterprises. Moreover, Microsoft also leveraged MSN to generate revenue through traditional advertising on its Web site, and also sold text-based advertisements to compete with Google’s AdWords and AdSense, and Yahoo! Search Marketing. In the enterprise software market, Microsoft deliberately chose not to compete with leading enterprise applications providers such as SAP and Oracle for large multinational companies. Instead, the software giant aggressively pursued opportunities with small and midsized enterprises. In 2001, Microsoft acquired Great Plains Software, a long-time partner and a specialist in accounting applications for small and midsized businesses. In 2002, Microsoft acquired Navision, a Denmark-based enterprise software maker. Therefore, Microsoft Business Solutions offered a wide range of software applications. This kind of strategy is really shrewd. If Microsoft competes with leading enterprise applications providers at beginning of the extending stage, it is impractical. Microsoft used acquisition method to enhance its strength in order to compete with leading companies in the future. Microsoft entered the video gaming business in 2001 compete with Sony. After the first launch of the video game console, Xbox, Microsoft is in the distant second place behind Sony’s Playstation 2. Microsoft tried to challenge Sony’s dominant position. First, the software giant’s Xbox 360 was launched several months ahead of its rivals’ products: Sony’s Playstation 3. Some believed that the success of Sony’s Playstation 2 had been partly due to its advantage in reaching the market earlier than its rival s. Hence, Microsoft copied this marketing trick by becoming the first game console in the new business cycle. It is called, dominating the market by striking first. We can learn from the Microsoft that capturing initiative is important in the business. Second, learning from the flop of the original Xbox in Japan, this time Microsoft worked closely with the producers of the Japanese games in the hope of neutralizing the traditional advantages of its two main rivals. I can learn from this case, we should learn from failure as Microsoft did. Avoiding backwards and developing merit. Third, Microsoft abandoned its previous approach of using off-the-shelf parts provided by Intel and Nvidia. Although efficient, that approach lacked the flexibility that Microsoft’s rivals enjoyed in reducing the consoles’ costs and increasing the profit margins during their lifetime. For example, Sony had gradually reduced the number of chips required by its Playstation 2 without sacrificing its performance. So Microsoft adopted a new design for Xbox 360, hoping to achieve a new degree of flexibility that could help integrate various components and profitability in the future. Microsoft also ventured into the mobile communications market. Microsoft went to the mobile operators because of the exclusion of the mobile handset manufacturers. At that time, many mobile operators, particularly in Europe, started to leverage original design manufacturers (ODM), mostly in Taiwan, to produce handsets that would bear their own brand names in order to create market differentiators. Meanwhile, Microsoft spotted this opportunity and persuaded the operators and handset manufacturers to develop phones based on its Windows Mobile operating system. In 2002, HTC launched the first Windows-based smart phone. HTC is a leading ODM in Taiwan. Other operators followed suit after that. In late 2005, Palm (Microsoft’s rival in handheld devices) decided to adopt the Windows Mobile software and replace is Palm OS with its Treo smart phone. This move further signaled Microsoft’s success in penetrating the mobile and handheld market segments. From this case, we can learn that the company should be sensitive to the business environment and grasp the chance in time. Microsoft spotted and grasped the opportunities to further establish itself in the industry. Microsoft had struggled for many years in the television market. At the beginning, many competitors were concerned that once Microsoft entered the market it would repeat its monopolistic practices of the PC business in the cable industry. In this situation, Microsoft had formed strategic partnerships, hoping to improve its position in the cable market. In this way, Microsoft established itself as a leading IPTV technology provider. Through this arrangement, a number of leading telecom operators adopted Microsoft’s software for their IPTV services. Hence, understanding how to cooperate with competitors is also important for doing business. In 2009, Microsoft created Bing as a search engine competed with Google. Microsoft grasped chances to be successful in the Chinese market to the best of its faculty. When entering the Chinese market, challenges remain for those looking to do business in the country. Intense competition, corruption, business etiquette and language are some of the barriers that can be faced. However, challenges are opportunities to some extent. Microsoft realized that when entering the Chinese market, the product may not sell like it does in the United States or Europe. In terms of Microsoft and China, the country has a strong censorship in place for its citizens, and Microsoft tried to come to an agreement to partner with a Chinese company to make the browser effective. Microsoft has signed a deal with Baidu, the biggest search engine in China, to provide English-language search results to improve its market share. In addition, Microsoft knew that Chinese government’s demands are significant. Microsoft Company censored the search results to relevant department to meet the Chinese government’s demands. The announcement of the deal is a boost to Microsoft, which has been struggling to boost the position of its Bing search engine against Google’s dominance in almost every country around the world. Sometimes, Bing trumps Google in touch-accessed services designed expressly to help iPhone and iPad die-hards have cooler experiences shopping and finding restaurants online. It will also be a boost for Baidu, which has ambitions internationally. In 2012, Microsoft launched panel computer, Surface. Ballmer redefined panel computer at Surface’s New Product Presentation in June, 2012. Surface is different from iPad. Surface is closer to the idea of Bill Gates. This is a panel computer that can work in the company. This is in harmony with Bill Gates’ definition to the panel in the beginning. Apple thinks panel is a mobile terminal. Microsoft Surface is more inclined to think is personal computers. I can see this point at the choice of the operating system. Apple is using iOS system for iPad. On the contrary, Microsoft is using Win8 for Surface. Moreover, Surface’s design is directed against for the iPad’s weaknesses. Microsoft used differentiation strategy. iPad’s input system is inconvenient, but Surface has a detachable keyboard, which makes Surface use like a computer. Meanwhile, Surface’s design is directed against for iPad’s App Store. App Store’s application depth is not enough. Nevertheless, Surface Pro is using the X86’s Win8 operating system, it can use more compatible operating system. One of Microsoft’s largest competitors is Apple Corporation. At the first competition between Apple and Microsoft, the winner is Microsoft. Windows operating system has good compatibility. Different brands and types of the computers around the world are installed in the same system. Despite it has shortcomings, but it can not hide the plebification characteristics. In contrast, Apple is pursuit of perfection and strict exclusiveness. Only Apple can install Apple’s system, but also only be installed such systems. Although Apple produce a good product, but can not win the favor of consumers. What’s more, Microsoft faced the challenge actively. In 2011, Skype was purchased by Microsoft Corporation for over $8 billion, and now operates as a division of Microsoft. Skype is a proprietary Voice over IP service and software application. Skype has expanded into education, as numerous classrooms worldwide now use the service to video conference with instructors, other student, and even other institutions. This will allow Skype to have a leg up in the future, when they decide to push even further with their subscription plans. What’s more, with Microsoft’s efforts in 2010 like apps store, Bing search engine, Yahoo-deal for ad-sharing, Zune platf orm and Project Natal, will undoubtedly compete with Apple and others effectively. 3. What can you foresee or what suggestions can you think about its growth of new area in the future? As far as I’m concerned, the growth of Microsoft’s new products will increase smoothly. However, Microsoft will face some challenges. Xbox, Kinect and Xbox Live continue to emerge as a rich hub for games, sports, movies and TV shows that can be accessed via touch and voice controls. And these controls are being increasingly integrated into all manner of screens: HDTVs, smart phones and tablets. â€Å"Two years ago, very few services connected,† says Frank X. Shaw, Microsoft’s vice president for corporate communications. â€Å"Now if you have an Xbox, you can see Bing, access Sky Drive (cloud storage) and use your Windows Phone to have a better experience, because the services are shared.† They are all products of new area. Their marketing foreground will be rosy. In my opinion, in all new products, Microsoft should focus on Bing. The key competitors of Bing, Google and Yahoo!, had adopted the application-as-services model coupled with a new advertising-driven funding approach, which enabled them to develop open-source and free software products for the general public. In particular, in the case, Google and Yahoo! had formed partnerships with various telecommunication or cable service providers in order to position their respective portals as the default entrance to the Internet. Microsoft should find methods to provide Internet users a range of services from search to e-mail and discussion blogs to news in order to compete with competitors. In the entertainment and consumer markets, Microsoft’s Xbox Live had been a leader of online gaming. The system provided classic arcade games, game trailers, and upgrade packs that were downloadable. However, the Xbox game console and the ventures in mobiles and IPTV, these products should be more consumer-oriented. The big competitors, Apple and Sony, their products are much more consumer-oriented and media savvy. For instance, Apple’s iMac and iPod products, and iTunes services were designed to cater to the high-end media centric consumers. Sony’s video games and entertainment business remained one of the strongest in the industry, particularly in the consumer electronics segment. If Microsoft’s products be more consumer-oriented, in my views, the Xbox game console and the ventures in mobiles and IPTV will be the star products in the future. However, Microsoft should pay attention to its major area, that is, personal computer software business. The superiority and proprietary advantages will be diminished if Microsoft ignored its major area. Japan and South Korea joined China in 2012 on a project to jointly develop a new operating system based on Linux as an alternative to Microsoft’s Windows. Thailand and Malaysia have instigated programs to offer low-cost PCs to citizens with Linux operating systems. It is the Butterfly Effect on global pricing. They’re being helped along by Microsoft competitors such as Sun Microsystems, which has signed a deal with the Chinese government to supply its Linux desktop operating system and office program to as many as a million PCs there. In Apple Company, Steve Jobs wants to overwhelm Microsoft in the field of operating systems. It is worth noting that, Apple’s computer hardware performance has been unmatched. However, Apple chose to â€Å"kill† Microsoft in the field of software. It means Apple was warning Microsoft intentionally: Not only IBM can be a threat to Microsoft, but also Apple. Microsoft’s competitors are trying to improve their market share in China and all over the world. Microsoft should not relax vigilance. It is still a long way to go for Microsoft. In my view, Microsoft should forge its own product culture. Apple is pursuit of elegant products. Apple adheres to creativity and uniqueness. Eventually become a model for other companies to emulate. Microsoft should find its own development route and set up unique product culture. Only in this way can Microsoft have its own distinguishing features and lead the industry. Microsoft used diversification strategy and it had entered various new markets in which it had no proprietary advantages. Facing with a bunch of new challenges, Microsoft should not confront alone. It should have new partnerships. The impression of people to Microsoft is a little bit haughty. So Microsoft should form more strategic partnerships in the future and learn more from the competitors modestly to capture opportunities in these new markets.

Communication Problems in Business Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Communication Problems in Business - Essay Example Let me start with the latter issue because of its great importance. Imagine 300 people from several dozens of countries talking in different languages, exchanging diverse cultures and dissimilar professional experience — now you can see the problem: how could be the same information delivered to all members of the conference with the acceptable level of comprehension? The problem must be solved using two means: proper language use and no jargon. Modern technology allows us to use multiple simultaneous interpreters translating a report do lots of different languages at a time. Use of jargon is a more dangerous issue because many specialists often underestimate its true harm. To ensure clarity of the information presented at the conference, it must be checked for omitting slangy terms, which vary greatly from place to place and therefore can be a disaster to understanding. The next issue to be considered is the urgency of the information. Needless to say, people invited to the c onference expect to hear something new and useful. It is as important as the urgent information told in time in the internal company environment. Therefore we must make sure that our conference won’t be a museum-like into the past of fibre optics. Finally, the comprehensiveness of the information relates to the level of trust our company deserves. It is often a sad fact when a business implements greater secrecy than it is needed. Oppositely, â€Å"many organizations are now considering a relatively new philosophy called Open Book Management for this very reason.

Strategy theory and practice Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Strategy theory and practice - Essay Example US-based home building industries depend on fluctuations of interest rates. The structure of the home building industry has become progressively more attractive. Investors within the industry consist of two main competitive classes: multi-regional builders and smaller builders, (often inclusive of National Association of Home Builders members). Another fact that the home building industry is growing despite a stagnant economy is the increasing stock rates of building companies that are on the rise. Though the industry as a whole has been hit financially, there are incorporated building companies succeeding in the marketplace. Regardless of limited success, there are some predicaments within this industry that’ve been triggered by the recession. The new developments can be outlined as follows: A. The Great Recession has caused a negative impact on the house building industry 1. The building of new single-family homes has decreased for more than 80% in comparison with 2005 (Econ omic and Housing Data) 2. Modern buyers are purchasing smaller houses, which are cheaper 3.

Rose for emiley written by william faulkner Essay

Rose for emiley written by william faulkner - Essay Example These devices include motifs, themes and symbols; for instance, the theme of tradition versus change, symbol of the hair strands and Emily’s house and motifs such as watching and dust. Themes, symbols and motifs play significance roles in enhancing the story’s plot and of characters’ traits. Themes The theme of ‘tradition versus change’ is notable throughout the story, particularly through Emily’s mysterious figure through which Faulkner demonstrates the struggles, which emerge from attempting to maintain tradition in light of sweeping change. Jefferson town is at the crossroad, accepting a modern commercial future while remaining perched in the past. This is notable in the eroded glory of the Grierson home to the cemetery where the town buried unknown Civil War (Faulkner 83). Emily is part of the tradition, steadfastly remaining unchanged over the years regardless of the countless changes occurring in her community. She represents traditions which people seek to honor, but she is also a burden cut off from the external world as she nurses odd behaviors that others do not comprehend. In essence, Faulkner uses the theme of ‘tradition versus change’ to show how Emily inhabits a timeless vacuum, as well as the world conjured by her imagination. For instance, Emily refuses to have metallic numbers embedded to her house when Jefferson receives modern mail services. While Jefferson holds traditional notions, such as reputation and honor in high regard, the narrator is rather critical towards the old men who wore Confederate uniforms to Emily’s funeral. The narrator notes that like Emily, the old men considered time a relative element. The theme of the power of death also enhances the story’s plot. Death permeates the story from the mention of Emily’s death at the beginning of the story (Faulkner 11). In all instances, death prevails over all attempts to master it. For instance, Emily who is a key fixture in her community slowly succumbs to death. The narrator compares Emily to a drowned woman who is bloated and pale after staying too long in the water. Emily tries to exert power over death by denying its existence. This is most notable through Emily’s treatment of Homer, after the death of the latter. Motifs The story encompasses motifs such as dust, which underscores decay and deteriorations. The dust which covers Emily’s house is a fitting description of the lives which faded within the house. Faulkner writes that when the aldermen went to secure Emily’s tax payments, Emily’s house smelt of dust and disuse, and the dust rose when they sat. This demonstrates the degree to which Emily’s house was a place of stasis in which memories and regrets remained undisturbed. The dust also portrays the cloud of obscurity which hides Emily’s nature as well as the secrets inherent in her house (Faulkner 112). A Rose for Emily also encompasses the motif of watching in which Emily is the subject of the narrator and Jefferson townspeople’s intense controlling stare. Instead of establishing real connections with Emily, the townspeople establish subjective and imprecise interpretations of the woman they hardly know. The townspeople attended Emily’s funeral under the pretense of honor and respect, but they wanted to satisfy their curiosity regarding the town’s most eccentric person. Perhaps the most ironic dimension of the story is that of the theorizing and gossiping which the townspeople do behind Emily’

International Business issues Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words

International Business issues - Essay Example It is evident from the study that the success of multinational firms in the global market is influenced by a series of factors; the ability of these firms to adopt foreign practices, which have been proved effective in the context of the host country, is often limited. However, in order for MNEs to secure their position internationally, it is necessary to develop flexible plans, which would be easily alternated, if necessary. In accordance with Rugman and Collinson, three different integration strategies, as related to organization structure, are available to MNEs in the context of the modern market: the backward integration, meaning the acquisition ‘of equity assets used earlier in the production process’, the forward integration through which the company ‘comes closer to its customers’, as for instance in the case that a firm which is well known in the television industry acquires a series of well known retail stores, aiming to use these stores for promoti ng its products. Also, there is the horizontal integration, i.e. the acquisition of a competitor; the above form of integration aims to increase the firm’s market share so that its profits are improved. All these forms of integration can result to critical changes on the organizational structure, at the level that after promoting one of these forms of integration a firm needs to align its structure accordingly so that the activities of the acquired firm are effectively monitored and supported. From another point of view, Aliber (1993) notes that the challenges of the global market are many; even MNEs that are well established in the international market face difficulties in competing their rivals. At this point, coalitions have been proved to be quite a valuable strategy for responding to the demands of the global market (Aliber 1993). Establishing teams with other firms allows MNEs to secure their position internationally controlling the risks related to their activities in host countries that are quite far from the home country (Aliber 1993). On the other hand, the design that a firm chooses when operating globally is not standardized (Neelankavil and Rai 2009). In most cases, it seems that factors such as ‘the industry in which a firm operates or the size of the firm’ (Neelankavil and Rai 2009, p. 315

Human Resource - Essay Example Current paper focuses on two particular aspects of Human Resources Management: Acquisition and Development of employees. Reference is made to a major competitor in the UK market: TESCO. The recruitment and selection process of the organization has been examined and evaluated. At the same time, the training and development programs of the firm are presented and analyzed in order to understand their contribution in the growth of the organization. It is concluded that the organization’s plans in regard the Acquisition and Development of its employees are unique, at the level that highly emphasis is given not just on the attracting of highly qualified staff but also on the continuous development of employees, according to their needs and potentials. 2.0 HRM – overview and presentation of key aspects 2.1 Role of HRM in modern organizations HRM is considered as a key sector in organizations operating in all industries. In the literature the elements of HRM have been extensive ly analyzed in order to understand the role of the above framework as a critical element of organizational environment. According to Sims (2007) the term HRM is used for describing ‘the rules, the principles and the processes used in organizations for managing their human resources’ (Sims 2007, p.5). In other words, the contribution of HRM in organizational growth can be vital, securing the high employee performance, as related to high organizational profits. It should be noted that HRM focuses not only on the management of the relationship between the organization and its employees but also on ‘employees’ needs and employees’ development’ (Sims 2007, p.5). In this way, the potential of employees to respond to the needs of the organization is increased. Considering employees not only as units supporting organizational processes

The Different Strategy Hierarchies Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

The Different Strategy Hierarchies - Essay Example One of the organizations known to practice hierarchy management strategy is the Al-Qaida rebel groups. Â  Organizations deploy different strategies as a way of enhancing their competitiveness in the industry. It is not a surprise that many organizations are still committed to hierarchy management strategy where key strategic decisions are conceived at the head-quarter by the top management organs while the execution of the tasks is delegated to lower levels. According to Williamson (1975; pp.67), social organization is not achievable in without hierarchy in the social set-up. He argued that hierarchy is fundamental in reducing the transaction costs. Since firms operate on a cost-minimization principle, the hierarchy is key to cost efficiency. Grint (2010; pp.43) asserts that for symbolic reasons, the hierarchy is critical since it is founded on the connotation orders of the Holy Sovereignty. Child (2009; pp.502) reasoned that organizational hierarchy is an integrating principle that enhances collective goal orientation and strategy for distributing privileges through the creation of social differentiation in power, status, and reward. Â  This hierarchy mode deviates from the traditional hierarchy that rooted for coercive and authoritative leadership and management styles characterized by top decision makers. Although it retains a few features of Tayloristic flavor, it is more enabling and also revises a number of clauses in Taylorism such as obedient execution by the employees. Porous-hierarchy, therefore, deviates from the traditional and dominant version that is founded on hierarchical power and bureaucracies.

Business ethic Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1

Business ethic - Essay Example In conclusion, the challenge was on both AWB and oil protocol. The main stakeholders in the case study are Iraq government and the international community including the US and Australia. Likewise, the primary interest of Australia was to obtain oil while offering food support to help in the recovery of the war torn Iraq after the desert storm. The primary interest of the Iraq government led by Saddam Hussein focused on protection of personal interest and development of the weapons of mass destruction. The ethical framework theories such as the teleological ethics can apply to the situation because it is based on the end result of the action. For instance, the food for oil, programs main aim was to ensure the Iraqis do not die of hunger after the operation desert storm which leads to loss of food reserves. However, the end result of the program was massive corruption making the idea wrong based on the teleological ethics theory. The consequence of the approach of the makes it a wrong approach in Iraq because of massive corruption and strengthening of the incumbent government which latter stocked itself with banned weapons including biological weapons of mass destruction. Utilitarianism ethical theory focuses on the greatest benefit to the greatest number of people. For instance, the attack of Iraq because of the existence of the biological weapons was considered a best option because it would benefit the whole world. Therefore, the theory supports the invasion of Iraq by the inter national community. The decision to open case against the eleven executive members of the AWB board is end product of unethical approach in problem solving for the Iraq case. The best approach was to ensure that the Iraq government pays for the goods and service provided instead of working on the Oil for Food strategy which failed miserable and led to empowerment of the incumbent government. In a good strategy in solving strategy ensures that

Kidulthood Essay Example for Free

Kidulthood Essay Kidulthood is a realist drama set in West London, made in 2006. It shows stereotype with teenagers and gender. Stand By Me is a film about four young teens going on a adventure to find a dead body. This film was made in 1986 but was based in 1959. The four boys lice in a small town in America. The youth and gender representation of kidulthood is that, it represents girls as being sex toys and that they need the opposite sex. A character which shows this is Becky (Alisas best friend). She always sells her body to men so that she can get stuff which shows that women are born to do these stuff. For instance in the film she gives an older man a blowjob for drugs. This evidence also shows that she is a sex toy for men. In conclusion Becky represents her gender as being lower than men because of her actions. Sam is the main antagonists in the film. He is represented as someone who everyone fears inside school and he always goes for someone who is less dominant. He represents his youth by showing that teenagers being a bad citizen around there area and people are not safe around them. My evidence is that he led to two murders in the film, one was Katie because of his demeanour towards her which led her to suicide and at the end of the film he hits Trife in the belly with a baseball bat. He represents his gender as boys being stronger and dominant than girls because he threatened his girlfriend with a baseball bat and he pulled Alisas her towards the end of the film. Overall he represents his youth and gender as boys nature is to be violent and have rough demeanour to girls and other people in his community. Jay is part of Trifes crew and he often uses women in the film. Jay acts big during the film but is often described as someone who is all talk and no actions. This is shown in the film when he kisses Sams girlfriend and he tells her he is not scared of Sam. But when Sam confronts him, he let him take his Gameboy. Jay represents his youth as teenagers have early sex with each other and this was shown when he tried to seduce Claire at Sams house. Also him and his crew pushed Sams mum on the floor which shows that most teenagers dont have respect for people. Also he represents his gender throughout the film by using women showing that boys can treat women however they like without their opinion. In conclusion Jay represents his youth and gender by showing that teenagers have lack of respect and boys can do whatever they want with girls. Chris from Stand by me is from a family who are criminals and alcoholics and most people stereotype about him due to his background. He represents his youth as twelve years old boy who smokes and uses a gun, also he uses foul language most of the time throughout the film. My evidence is that in the beginning of the film him and teddy smoke in the tree house at a young age and he stole a gun from his dad. Also he swore at one of the characters during the end of the film. In conclusion Chris represents his youth as young people always are a bad influence and most youth are always doing these activities not matter what age they are. Maybe for the fact that Chris was bought up in a criminal family could suggest his actions outside which could infer that the representation of youth depends on their surroundings. Also the fact that in Stand By Me they are going on a adventure to find a dead body indicates that they are clueless to be very excited and interested in a dead body, it also shows their innocence for the fact that they live in a small town where nothing really happens. In the kidulthood poster we see Sam with a baseball bat and standing up showing that he is one of the main villains of film because his position in the poster is more apart from the other characters suggests that everybody is scared of him and the baseball bat shows it. But in Stand By Me the prop is the gun held by Gordie but it does not show danger because he is wearing a cap and a backpack that could indicate that this was used for self defence, rather than the baseball bat in the Kidulthood poster because Sam is wearing a hoodie and his facial expression shows he is proud to have this baseball bat in his hand or in other hand to show this prop was made to harm people. The reason why we dont get a impression that the gun in Stand By Me was made to harm is that the quotes on top of the poster shows their childhood and what they do in life which is talking about sweets and life. But it could also represent that they act much younger than their age to be talking about is really childish. Furthermore there was no girls in the film Stand By Me which could highlight that the female gender are much more responsible, mature and better gender than them because they would not get involved in dangerous activities like the four boys got into to. Becky however shows the total opposite of what Stand By Me infers, she represents her gender as male being the dominant sex because she used a man to get money. As you can notice in the Kidulthood poster that the characters have no emotions on their faces and the mid shot of the picture shows more of the background which is dark to emphasise that London is not a place you would want to stay in whereas the Stand By Me background is more bright and one of the characters are smiling. The position of Trife and Alisa show a more of a husband and wife pose to indicate their role during the film.

Genetically modified foods Essay Example for Free

Genetically modified foods Essay What are bioengineered foods? Bioengineered foods are plants created for human and animal consumption using the latest molecular biology techniques. Bioengineered foods have been enhanced in a laboratory to desire traits like, resistance to herbicides and improved nutrition. By bioengineering foods you can create plants with the desired trait very rapidly. The advantages of bioengineered foods is that they are pest resistances, disease resistance, able to with stand cold weather, drought tolerance, and nutrition. Farmers lose crops every year due to insects, farmers use pesticide to kill these bugs and to keep them from eating the crops. Bioengineered foods help to reduce or eliminate the use of pesticides. Scientist are working on a gene strain to inject into the crops to help them withstand diseases that can harm the crop and make it uneatable for the consumer. A gene from cold water fish has been injected into sensitive plants like potatoes and tobacco to withstand the cold weather. The drought tolerance gene will help farmers to grow crops in soil that crops would not be able to grow in. The nutrition gene is ejected into the plants or crops to enhance nutritional value. Some examples of bioengineered foods are tomatoes, potatoes, squash, corn, and soybens. All these foods have been genetically altered in some way. The reason for these foods to be genetically altered is to make them taste better, and to have more nutritional value. Scientists have created many bioengineered foods and are working on many more foods. The pros of bioengineered foods seem to back up the good in creating bioengineered foods. The first pro is eliminating the foods ability to cause an allergic reaction. Which allows people who would have an allergic reaction by eating these certain foods to not have one. Another pro in creating bioengineered foods is that the plants grow faster than growing them in a traditional way. Also bioengineered foods cost less to produce than non bioengineered foods, this is because people do not have to spray the plant with chemicals to protect it. The cons of bioengineered foods should make people think about ingesting them. The most dangerous issue of ingesting bioengineered foods is that the food can have a harmful effect on the human body. According to some experts people ingesting bioengineered foods have a high risk of developing cancer. There is not much known about the long term effects on people and health risks are unknown. Also pollen from the fields of bioengineered food can spread to fields that do not contain bioengineered foods and contaminate the non bioengineered foods. In conclusion bioengineered foods are beneficial in most ways for human consumption. Bioengineered foods are beneficial in ways like more nutrients, food grows faster and food taste better. Also you do not have to spray these crops with pesticides because they are pest resistance. bioengineered foods are bad for human consumption in ways like causing cancer, and not knowing the long term effects on the human body. All and all its is up to the consumer, whether or not to purchase and consume bioengineered foods.

Several well-known Tremont Group Holdings Inc have a combined annual income of up to 40% to 50% of the rate. But it is worth mentioning that the hedge fund investment strategy is a high risk investment, hedge funds may bring high return but also bring inestimable loss to hedge funds. The largest hedge funds could not change unpredictably in the financial market in an invincible position forever. The Tiger Fund in the cause of the peak appeared unable to get up after a fall position error, in this paper, will discuss the potential risk and the mode of operation of the hedge fund. Literature Review In the The future of hedge fund investing, the author based on the situation of Australian hedge fund manager for the acceptance of new products as well as the survey of Australian hedge fund market, expressed on the future development of hedge funds. The author is a direct expression of the hedge fund will become one of the main mode of future development, but the future rate of return will tend to rational. Hedge funds can provide very good nontraditional investment projects and investment philosophy, thus breaking the traditional sense of the financial system of the absolute, such as stock and futures market. Investors must not simply from the stock rise in profits or profit from the good development of economy, but also can benefit from the various possibilities by hedge funds. This model to overthrow the traditional investment concept. The ability to hedge funds over risk-free money market assets is easy to verify comparable hedge fund performance and the main stock index reveals mixed results. Hedge fund should consider contains only they can provide diversification benefits not drag the whole income portfolio rate in the diversified portfolio. Hedge funds have been trying to move beyond monetary market agents, suggesting that, on average, investors should be better in the currency market investment. Australian investors, from the bank bill yields than hedge fund returns do not bear any risk in this period. (Ali, 2004). In the Hedge fund reporting challenged, the author suggested to hedge funds, one of the main potential risks. Hedge fund investors in understanding the initial investment hedge fund manager, whether this distribution have a positive return or not interested. In the past the investment rate of return information that is of particular interest, is the prospect of information in the profit or loss of the future. Hedge fund report can be a tense relationship between investors and hedge funds origin. The report is the main concern for investors data prior to disclosure the past rate of return on investment, but investors rarely take the initiative to care about the obtained before changes in the objective market high returns and the international financial system environment. This is the number of big hedge fund in successive years of high returns, one of the potential risk of sudden trouble. When investors and hedge fund managers at the same time the face of this report, the mentality is different each other. Investors want to obtain information from the hedge fund report, see the foundation in the future may be and the same as before to obtain a high rate of return on investment, while for the hedge fund managers, they would prefer to adopt a perfect report to obtain higher investment amount, and then through the financial derivatives to move more high leverage to demand higher interest. (Schrà ¶der, (2009)) In the article the Banking Financial Services Policy Report, the author points out a series of questions of hedge funds since the. This article uses a lot of data to illustrate the operation mode of hedge fund will make these funds will eventually go blind profit and ignore the regulation of the abyss. In this paper, the author will provide potential agency problems associated with the management of the hedge fund, the relevant reasons to increase or decrease in the regulation of hedge funds, and discuss the international differences in the regulation of hedge funds. At the same time, the author also points out the necessity and possibility of the development of hedge funds to do supervision and the future development in this trend. This paper points out that the Agency Problems in Hedge Fund Managementà ¯Ã‚ ¼Ã…’Potential Conflicts Arising from Investor Baseà ¯Ã‚ ¼Ã…’Potential Conflicts Arising from Fees and Proprietary Investment by Hedge Fund Managersà ¯Ã‚ ¼Ã…’Potential Conflicts Arising from Lack of Regulatory Oversight Potential Conflicts Arising from Lack of Transparency, Potential Conflicts Arising from Lack of Transparency, Liquidity, Independent Valuation, and Pricingà ¯Ã‚ ¼Ã…’Potential Conflicts Arising from Strategies and Leverage and International Differences in Hedge Fund Regulation are the major problems of hedge fund. The author cites a large number of problems in depth later, found the cause of the problem, and put forward a relative dialectical argument in the solution to the problem cause, is about the supervision of strict degree. The use of innovative investment strategies of hedge fund of hedge fund. On the one hand, to provide a variety of welfare hedge fund strategies these innovation, financial system involved, including the market liquidity and provide vital, limit price distortions and abnormal through arbitrage, and the tools and the risk of the market, because they can quickly change the portfolio. At the same time regulation can avoid more human or human operational errors based on the market tends to be more rational and restrained. However, people also hold clear opposing views concerning the draconian regulation, such as regulation is going to cause the market too friendly, hedge fund managers may face administrative regulation more trivial on trifles and unable to better respond to market changes, the hedge fund manager will relocate to more lax regulation of less jurisdiction. At the same time, for more regulation will involve taking self regulatory function from hedge fund participants, which may encourage the investment decision and risk management of relaxation. And finally the author puts forward the problem now is not how to regulate the industry, but where to draw the line in and excessive regulation. If it is assumed that all hedge fund manager to complete freedom to do what they do best, then any additional regulation would lose their favorable position in market failure in the market self adjustment ability, but it is easier to make the fund managers do not health more cross line led to the developm ent of the market, is not conducive to the long development. (Cumming, (2008).) In an annual report from Deutsche Bank, the hedge funds derivatives business has been affected by the financial tsunamis biggest business. Performance data of bad, caused the final quarter of the year in many hedge fund strategies 2008, investors Redemption requests boom. Deutsche Bank is one of those still in the market. Keep away from new business, it continues to thousands of products, so that the two grade market, has been in the restructuring of the damaged hedge fund positions are very active, and has developed a new hedge funds, exchange traded funds to investors liquidity. The bank also help clients to fund investment in hedge funds and funds. Deutsche bank restructuring process of more than $2000000000 of products for more than a year. In some cases, other dealers structure it help investors hedge fund products supplier credit risk or involved in the transaction. This structural adjustment as a means of coping with the crisis, operation method and the new popular form in more of the financial system. According to Deutsche Bank in a report, it is not difficult to see that the structural problems brought about by solving hedge fund existing products has become a main direction of major financial institutions, at the same time, the bank also gives a better solution is to avoid speculation concept, simple game on the existing basis, derivatives more market more transparent, provide financial tsunami hedge fund after a good operation platform. It is groundbreaking because, for the first time, investors can access a diversified pool of hedge funds, which is Ucits Illcompliant, transparent, over-collateralised and developed into a package that is as liquid as foreign exchange, says Farouze. Everybody is going to ask how we are providing intra-day liquidity and not taking big risks because the underlying managers are not liquid, but it is a fundamental misunderstanding that managers are illiquid. Deutsche Bank report a future development direction, but this is not the only direction. In fact, the financial system is with the development of science and technology and the process of globalization. While similar to the hedge fund this fund molding for just a few decades, and only in the last ten years of substantial growth, occupy a space for one person in financial institutions. It is not difficult to see, the future development is diversity, hedge fund concept will be with the development of financial system and complete change. This will later in the paper mentioned. (BANK, 2010) Research Questions In this report, will be around 2 main research. First, the operation mode and the hedging strategy of hedge fund. Second, hedge funds will face what risks and how to avoid these risks. Operation mode about hedge funds will choose more common and easily understood model analysis, through analysis, a direction to try to explain why hedge funds as institutional investors are willing to invest, and position fully understand why financial derivatives play in different market operation. About the risk hedge funds face, will be analyzed from different aspects, first of all will be based on several reasons the literature has been mentioned analysis will be between hedge fund managers and investors have problems and explore why hedge fund risk management must be very strict, and will use examples of why once large hedge fund be unable to get up after a fall in the market changes, exit the market stage, finally according to the international economic environment and puts forward some assumptions and analysis of hedge funds will be how to face these difficulties, and puts forward the solution or the method of risk aversion. the operation mode and the hedging strategy of hedge fund Hedge funds have a lot of investment strategy, the investment strategy, academic classification is roughly four, arbitrage, event driven, directional and global macro. And the four way investment, should be said that the four main thinking pattern, they can coexist also can invest strategy according to one or more of them adjustment. It is also a reflection of the hedge fund freely. In the paper, classification will be analyzed, and give examples. Arbitrage The basic idea is to arbitrage fund assets to buy shares, part of the assets of the short selling of shares. Multiple assets amount to buy stocks by the B coefficient (coefficient a measure of stock and market relevance) adjusted to form a long position, short asset amount of the short selling of stocks by the B coefficient adjustment after the formation of short positions, long positions and short positions of the difference between the formation of the assets of the fund market position. The market position for long, short or is zero, thereby regulating funds face market risk. When the market position to zero, long / short strategy to become the market neutral strategy, the fluctuation of return and market fund completely unrelated. Through adjusting the market positions, types or further adjustment of portfolio stock, can adjust the portfolio risk degree and the risk types. Hedge is a double-edged sword. When the fund market risk faced by hour, value-added potential of the fund ca n enjoy the stock market long-term upward trend has also reduced. In addition to hedge market risk, we can also be other risk funds to hedge funds, such as exchange rate risk, interest rate risk, the industry risk etc.. Whenever a risk is hedged, there is no possibility of fund managers use the risk factors for the fund value. In theory, a perfect hedge fund returns should be the risk-free rate minus the transaction cost. Therefore, in practice, the fund manager will not take all the risk factors for hedge funds, but their risk factors cannot grasp the hedged risk factors, leaving his grasp, make investment decisions in these risk factors to obtain excess returns. Stock index futures Stock index futures is not reasonable price the stock index futures market, at the same time to participate in the stock index futures and spot market transactions, or simultaneously in different period, different (but similar) category stock index contracts, to earn post behavior. Stock index futures arbitrage sub now hedge, hedging, hedging and cross city, cross species hedge. Commodity futures Similar to stock index futures, commodity futures also exists in the hedge strategy, to buy or sell a futures contract at the same time, selling or buying another contract related, and in a time of the two kinds of contracts. Transactions in the form it and hedging some similar, but hedging is to buy on the spot market (or sell) real goods, selling in the futures market at the same time (or buy) futures arbitrage; and only in the futures market sale and purchase agreement, does not involve the spot transaction. Commodity futures arbitrage are now hedge, hedging, cross market arbitrage and cross species arbitrage. Option hedging Option is also called the right to choose, is a kind of derivative financial instruments in the future on the basis of. From its essence, option is essentially in the financial sector to the rights and obligations of separate pricing, the right of the transferee within the specified time on whether to trade to exercise its rights and obligations must be fulfilled. In options trading, purchase option is termed the buyer, and the sale of options side is called the seller; the buyer is the right of the assignee, and the seller must fulfill the buyer to exercise the right obligation. Option has the advantages of unlimited income and risk of loss is limited, so in many cases, the option to replace the futures, short hedge trading, will risk arbitrage has smaller and higher rate of return than the futures.

Must Christians Chose Between Evolution and Creationism? Essay

Must Christians Chose Between Evolution and Creationism? The debate of evolution and creationism has extended since the beginning of time. In fact, it is not even as simple as these two opposing views. Each person seems to have formed their own theory which has a unique list of beliefs and dimensions. This makes a complex and difficult task when trying to find agreement between each of these unique theories. However, many Christians are finding it necessary to discover an alternative to the extremist views of evolution and creationism. An article on the world wide web entitled the "Theory of evolution vs. creation," summarizes the debate between evolution and creationism. According to this article, the controversy between these theories began because of two differing beliefs on the meaning of life. It states that, "Evolutionists use the scientific method which assumes that everything happens as a result of natural forces, not by the command of a deity. They will usually trace origins back to the `big bang.' And when skeptics ask what happened before the big bang, scientists may offer some guesses, but will usually admit that they don't know." On the other side of the debate, the creation scientists believe that, "God created the universe, including the earth and its life forms. And when scientific skeptics ask who created God, creationists will usually reply that God has always existed and was not created."(OCRT,1996) A battle between the two theories erupts because evolution and creationism delve deeply into philo sophical and theological conceptions. More likely than not, the evolution and creationism debate is an issue of religion. On religious grounds such as these, science is not prepared or adept to resolve the exi... ...tion Controversy. Nursing Home Abuse Essay -- Elderly Care Nursing Essays Papers

Nursing Home Abuse With over 1.5 million elderly and dependent adults now living in nursing homes throughout the country, abuse and neglect has become a widespread problem. Even though some nursing homes provide good care, many are subjecting helpless residents to needless suffering and death. Most residents in nursing homes are dependent on the staff for most or all their needs such as food, water, medicine, toileting, grooming- almost all their daily care. Unfortunately, many residents in nursing homes today are starved, dehydrated, over-medicated, and suffer painful pressure sores. They are often isolated, ignored and deprived of social contact and stimulation. Because of insufficient and poorly trained staff commonly found in nursing homes. Care givers are often overworked and grossly underpaid that often results in rude and abusive behavior to vulnerable residents who beg them for simple needs such as water or to be taken to the bathroom. Federal and State laws require that nursing homes develop a plan of care and employ sufficient staffing to provide all the care listed on the care plan. Most corporate owned nursing homes today are not sufficiently staffed, and they can not provide all the care listed on the care plan. Consequently, residents are not taken to the toilet when necessary; they’re often left lying in urine and feces. They also develop painful and life-threatening decubitus ulcers, and are not fed properly, they’re not given sufficient fluids. They are also over-medicated or under-medicated, and dropped causing painful bruises and fractures, are ignored and not included in activities, are left in bed all day, call lights not answered. These are all forms of negligence, performed daily in nursing homes. Nursing homes who receive federal funds are required to comply with federal laws that specify that residents receive a high quality of care. In 1987 Congress responded to reports of widespread neglect and abuse in nursing homes during 1980’s, which enacted legislation to reform nursing home regulations and require nursing homes participating in the Medicare and Medicaid programs to comply with certain requirements for quality of care. The legislation, included in the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987, which specifies that a nursing home â€Å"must provide services and activities to attain or maintain the highest practicable phys... ...al nurse on duty day and night? Nursing home care is expensive. Although prices vary, the basic charge for a double-bed room in a typical nursing home is in the range of $20,000 to $50,000 a year. Homes in rural areas tend to be slightly less expensive than those in cities. The costs of medications and physician visits are not included in the basic charge. Also, special treatments such as physical, occupational, and speech therapy often add to the cost. There are also possible additional charges for drugs, laundry, haircuts, and extra services. Some nursing homes are operated as nonprofit corporations. They are sponsored by religious, charitable, fraternal and other groups or ran by government agencies at the federal, state, or local levels. But many nursing homes are businesses operated for profit. Individuals or corporations may own them. Sometimes they are part of a chain of nursing homes. Now, you can see that Nursing Home abuse is a big problem in America. You might want to get involved in our local program against nursing home abuse. I will leave you with one last statistic, 1 out of every 8 nursing home patients are abused in some way. Wouldn’t you like to help them?

Type A Personalities Essay -- Psychology, Control Freaks

I have often heard of people referred to as having Type A personalities, but for a long time did not understand the meaning of the term. Type A behavior is consistent with a person who is aggressive, ambitious, competitive, task oriented and always on the move (Ivanchevich p. 257). At times, Type A's are referred to as "control freaks" (Stone). Individuals with Type A behavior work very hard at getting the most done in the littlest time possible; they often finish peoples sentence because of their explosive speech pattern; they are impatient and can become irritated when put in situations where they must wait since they consider it a waste of their valuable time (Ivancevich p. 257). Type A's prefer things to be done their way, with little regard for people who see things differently than them and will take control of situations whenever possible, even when there is an appointed leader (Stone). The best way to deal with Type A behavior is to give these individuals the recognition they are looking for without empowering them (Stone). Type A's unknowingly fear receiving the type of treatment they use on others, therefore acknowledging their efforts will usually appease them (Stone). Type B The opposite of Type A behavior is known as Type B behavior. This person is relaxed, patient, steady and even-tempered (Ivancevich p. 258). Type B personalities go with the flow of things and do not usually worry about time pressures or pressure by other persons (Ivancevich p. 258). Type B individuals are confident and may a good amount of drive, but they work at their own pace (Ivancevich p. 258). Type B personalities enjoy winning, but do not stress out if they lose. Type B's are also reflective and often think of other and find... ...se. Type B's are also reflective and often think of other and find ways to help out when they can (Type A). In the story, "The Tortoise and the Hare", the Tortoise was laid back and took his time to reach his goal, whereas the Hare was aggressive and ruthless. The same comparison can be made with Type B's as the Tortoise and Type A's as the Hare. Type B behavior, although not wrong in itself, can be a source of stress for others in the workplace that do not display the same behavior type (Ivancevich p. 253). According to my research, the best way to deal with conflict arising from behavior type differences is to educate individuals about their differences in order to bring awareness and cohesiveness (Gordon). Manager's need to recognize the basis of employee's personalities in order to better coach and develop them as integral parts of the workforce (Gordon).

Using Technology to Improve Business Communication

Assignment #2 Using Technology to Improve Business Communication Hans Jacobs October 31, 2011 By Inderjot Shokar Horvathova, P. & Davidova, M. (2011). Application of Talent Management with the useof Information and Communications Technology in the Czech Republic and OtherDeveloping, Emerging and Transitions Economies. Retrieved fromhttp://web. ebscohost. com. libproxy. auc. ca In this study, the researchers examined the quality of ICT technology along with talent management being used in organizations in one of the regions in the Czech Republic. Out of a group of 237 respondents (all organizations) selected for a survey, 96. % had said talent management had not been put into practice in their organization. In another survey, 118 of 228 respondents had said they were not familiar with the process. In relation to my topic, this article does stress the importance of using technology to improve business communication, how to use it efficiently, and that it’s most effective along w ith human interaction. However, it does not discuss how to keep technology in perspective, the importance of reconnecting with people frequently, and the flaws and distractions of technology if used inappropriately. Tsai, C. , Wang, C. , & Lu, M. 2011). Using The Technology Acceptance Model To Analyze Ease of Use of A Mobile Communication System. Retrieved from http://web. ebscohost. com. libproxy. auc. ca This article discusses the use of mobile communications to relay specific bodies of knowledge. It states that if mobile communications is to be used as a communication medium, it should have a simple design that users can implement in their life on a daily basis. Doing so will make people more willing to use the technology and thus improving communication. In an experiment of 230 participants, the results showed that this research had atisfactory reliability and validity. Therefore, this information is relevant to my topic because it discusses improvement through technology of com munication. But keeping technology in perspective, connecting with people frequently, and using communication technologies productively is not discussed. People should have this knowledge to avoid the negative effects from the use of technology. Bubou, G. M. (2011). Platform Technologies and Socio-economic Development: The Case ofInformation and Communications Technologies (ICTs) in Nigeria. Retrieved fromhttp://web. bscohost. com. libproxy. auc. ca In this case study, the nation of Nigeria is examined to see how far it has developed during the period of 2001-2009 with the use of ICT and how ICT will assist to obtain the strategic vision ‘Vision 20/20/20’ to improve Nigeria’s economy . It is now among the top 10 countries in Africa with the highest telecommunication users. In 2001, the tele-density of Nigeria was a measly 0. 73%. By the end of December 2010, it grew to 63. 11%. Even internet usage has gone up, from 24% in 2007 to 42% in 2009 with over 83 million subscribers.A major milestone that made this possible was the launch of the first African communication satellite (NigComSat1). Over $12 billion of Direct Foreign Investment (DFI) has flowed into the country. At a macroeconomic level, the GDP has increased by 27. 8% from N6. 7 billion in 2004 to N8. 6 billion in 2005. In 2010, it is said this sector will contribute to 1. 62% of GDP, with over 50. 9% growth in contribution to GDP. In comparison to my topic, the improvement through technology for Nigeria is emphasized greatly. However, it has not touched base on the other areas of my topic. Although the growth and development of this country has heavily been impacted by the development and implementation of ICTs, the topic of ICT should be discussed in more detail. All aspects should be covered, including the negative effects. Bonnie, C. How Do Businesses Use Communication Technology to Improve Their Performance? Retrieved from http://smallbusiness. chron. com This article discusses ho w communication can be key when it comes to keeping all workers in the loop. As it is mentioned, ‘what’s new’ section on the company website can keep everyone up-to-date with what’s going on with the company. Instant messaging programs can help communicate important information or instructions quickly and efficiently. It can also update coworkers and supervisors of an employee’s status, whether they are in a meeting, at their desk, or out of the office. Email is still a popular method of communication and is ideal when a business has multiple offices in multiple areas. In regards to my topic, productive use of technology for business improvement is demonstrated well in this article.Yet they have not included the downsides of instant messaging. It can prove to be quite distracting. Employees can potentially misuse IM for non-work related discussion, and thus decreasing productivity. As well, it has failed to mention keeping technology in perspective and how important it is to connect with people frequently. Applegate, J. (1999, Nov). Black Enterprise. Retrieved from http://books. google. ca (110-118) In this article, it is discussed how crucial it is to use technology to run a business.Suggestions are made for different types of technologies that any business should have for its’ day to day operations. Included in these suggestions are cellular phones, two-way pagers, multi-function boxes (printer/scanner/fax/copier), internet service providers, personal digital assistants (PDAs), wireless modems, online employee training, voicemail, and creating a website. This article discusses improvement of business through technology but forgets to mention the cons of misuse for technology, keeping technology in perspective, and the importance of connecting with people. You would want to ensure that employees are using their technological tools for work purposes. For interpersonal communication, these tools are great. But you do not want to grow dependent on them. It’s not meant to think and communicate for you. Communicating through a phone all day may be convenient, but it good to stay in touch face-to-face with your workers and contacts. It’s good to know people for who they are, because behind a computer or phone, they are just another voice.
